Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital (RRH), locally known as Buhinga, opened in 1920 as a dispensary and upgraded to a RRH in 1994. According to the 2014 census data, Fort Portal Hospital serves a population of 469,236 in Kabarole district.  Located in Western Uganda, the hospital has a bed capacity of 307 beds and serves the entire Ruwenzori region consisting of seven Ugandan districts (Bundibugyo, Kabarole, Kyenjojo, Kasese, Kamwenge, Kyegegwa and Ntoroko) and part of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Fort Portal RRH offers both general and specialized services and is a teaching hospital. USAID/SUSTAIN supports Fort Portal to deliver quality and comprehensive HIV/AIDS services.

Fort Portal RRH, with the support of SUSTAIN, is also utilizing the science of quality improvement to enhance the quality of HIV/AIDS care and treatment services. Find out more about specific experiences, ideas, and lessons learned.
