Certificate of Recognition for outstanding performance

The Ministry of Health (MOH) awarded USAID’s URC-implemented SUSTAIN project a certificate of recognition for its outstanding performance and contribution to the Uganda Health Laboratory Sector, as the project continues to enhance the quality of HIV/AIDS care and treatment service delivery through capacity building, quality improvement (QI), support towards lab accreditation, and laboratory infrastructure strengthening.

Using the principles of QI, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH) Quality Assurance Department and the USAID-funded Applying Science to Strengthen and Improve Systems (ASSIST) project, SUSTAIN supports hospitals in establishing more efficient and effective service delivery processes through improving existing systems while strengthening links between facilities and communities through work with community health departments and hospital teams.

Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission (EMTCT) campaign

SUSTAIN joined other implementing partners, the Uganda Ministry of Health and the Office of the First Lady to officially launch the Northern Uganda Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission (EMTCT) campaign under the theme ‘Stand Out, Participate, Protect and Have an HIV-Free Baby’ at Lira Regional Referral Hospital (RRH), one of 24 SUSTAIN-supported hospitals.  The First Lady, Janet Museveni, presided over the event  and met with members  of project-supported family support groups advising couples to go to HIV testing, pregnant women to attend antenatal care four times and give birth in a health facility. The US Ambassador Scott DeLisi has pledged a commitment of the US to support this shared vision. SUSTAIN will continue to take part in other regional campaigns scheduled in the coming months.
