Hoima Regional Referral Hospital (RRH) is located approximately 190 kilometers from Kampala. According to the 2014 census data, Hoima Hospital serves a population of 572,986 in Hoima district. Originally a health center for the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, it was upgraded to a district hospital and then became one of the RRHs in 1994.
With a bed capacity of 268 beds, Hoima Hospital now serves Bunyoro (mid-western region) and part of central Uganda including the Hoima, Masindi, Kiryandongo, Buliisa, Kibaale, Kyankwanzi and Kiboga districts and a steadily increasing number of patients coming from eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is also a teaching hospital for students pursuing medical professions in the region.
